摘要 The present invention relates to an apparatus for determining an operation time point of a generator for high-speed traveling of a traveling distance-extended electric vehicle, which is capable of controlling the generator according to the state of charge of a battery and a vehicle speed to restrict an occurrence of a low-voltage error, and a method thereof. The apparatus for determining an operation time point of a generator for high-speed traveling of a traveling distance-extended electric vehicle includes: a battery management system for detecting the state of charge (SOC) of the battery; a vehicle speed detecting unit for detecting a vehicle speed; and a vehicle control apparatus for obtaining the state of charge in the battery and the vehicle speed from the battery management system and the vehicle speed detecting unit, comparing the state of charge of the battery and the vehicle speed with a preset minimum state of charge of the battery and a limited speed, respectively, and controlling an operation of the generator according to the comparison result. When the state of charge of the battery is equal to or less than the preset minimum state of charge of the battery or the vehicle speed is greater than the limited speed, the vehicle control apparatus drives the generator to restrict an occurrence of a low-voltage error and maintain the state of charge of the battery to be suitable for a high-speed traveling.
