PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handling method for heavy items in nuclear reactor storage containers by which heavy items, such as reactor vessels, can be removed and installed in nuclear reactor storage containers without having to use a crane guarder.SOLUTION: Four extensible heavy item elevating devices 5 are so assembled on a work floor 3 in the installing position of a nuclear reactor vessel 4 as to surround the installing position; a jack receiver beam 6 is strung between the apexes of each adjoining pair of extensible heavy item elevating devices 5; an elevating stage 8 is installed on a jack receiver beam 6 via a center hole jack 7; when the nuclear reactor vessel 4 is to be installed in a nuclear reactor storage container 1, the nuclear reactor vessel 4 is brought in from outside the nuclear reactor storage container 1 in a sideway-toppled state onto the work floor 3; the nuclear reactor vessel 4 and the elevating stage 8 are linked to each other; the elevating stage 8 is lifted with the heavy item elevating devices 5 and the center hole jack 7; the nuclear reactor vessel 4 is erected on the work floor 3; the elevating stage 8 is brought down with the heavy item elevating devices 5 and the center hole jack 7; and the nuclear reactor vessel 4 is hung down to and installed in its installing position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
