Disclosed is a road stud with an optical input, an optical output, a light modification component, and a microprocessor. The optical input is for receiving incoming light from a vehicle on the road. The optical output directs the light out of the road stud in a predetermined output direction. The light modification component modifies the incoming light as it passes along a light path from the optical input to the optical output. The microprocessor controls the light modification component, so that the road stud can send an outgoing optical communication signal when the road stud is illuminated by incoming light from a vehicle. Also disclosed are a road stud with a light sensor and a microprocessor, a road stud with a reflector, a light source, a light sensor and a microprocessor, a road stud with a lens, a light sensor and a environmental moisture content determining means, a road stud with a pair of reflectors one inside the other and a road stud with a biconvex reflector. |
