[Problem] To obtain a photoacoustic image generation method and device that make it possible to generate a photoacoustic image in which artifacts are reduced and tissue having blood vessels or the like intricately interlaced therein in a three-dimensional manner can be easily observed. [Solution] A photoacoustic image generation device (10) that emits light from a light source toward a subject, obtains a photoacoustic signal by detecting photoacoustic waves emitted from the subject that receives the light, and creates an image of the subject on the basis of the photoacoustic signal, said photoacoustic image generation device (10) being provided with: a means (51) for removing a signal representing a component that appears discontinuously within the subject from a photoacoustic signal that relates to a plurality of cross sections of the subject generated by changing the angle formed by the light emission direction and the surface of the subject; and a means (52) for building a three-dimensional image of the subject from a photoacoustic signal representing each of the plurality of cross sections that have been subjected to this removal processing. |
