[Also in Group XXXIX] In a circuit for obtaining a voltage V8 proportional to the quotient V1/V2, the voltages V1, V2 are applied via resistors R respectively to diodes 56, 57 which have exponential current/ voltage characteristics so that the voltages V3 and V4 at the grids of valves 51, 52 are proportional to the logarithms of V1, V2, respectively. By the cathode follower action these voltages are repeated as V5, V6 on the cathodes of the valves, and this voltage difference is applied to the exponential diode 58 to produce a current i7 proportional to the ratio V1/V2. The output is derived as a voltage V8 developed over a small anode resistor R1. The Specification contains detailed mathematical analysis of the circuit which is used in a speech current analyser (see Group XXXIX). |
