The invention relates to a mixing bowl (1) having a base (2) and a side wall (4) of flexible material (e g. silicon) extending up from the base, said side wall being collapsible from a first raised position (fig. l) to a second storage position (fig 2) The side wall (4) comprises two or more sidewall sections and an annular fold line (6) is provided between them so that the two sections fold relative to each other. The base may have a locking mechanism 3a-b to engage with a food mixer base. The base may be metal and may be adapted to be heated by induction from an induction heater on a food mixer base. The sidewall sections may comprise at least one annular stiffening rib (l6a-d, fig.4). A lid (18, Fig.7) may be provided to fold within the mixing bowl when the bowl is collapsed.
