Class 20(3) A panel, e.g. a vehicle windscreen 12, is secured within an aperture bordered by a portion 18 of the vehicle body by means of an intermediary frame member 13 having, at its inner boundary, a channel 14, 15 in which the margin of the windscreen is secured by a filler strip 16 and, on its outer boundary, a continuous undercut groove 20, the inner wall of the channel 14, 15 being continued downwardly to provide a flange 17 ribbed at 19 which overlies the frame portion 18. The intermediary frame member 13 is secured to the frame portion 18 by screws 24 which are placed in countersunk holes in the frame 18 before the member 13 is located and which engage in open ended slots 23 in the lower ends of a corresponding number of retaining lugs 22, the upper bent over ends of which engage in the groove 20. In a modification, the upper ends of the lugs 22, which are not bent, fit snugly into a channel-shaped groove 20, the rib 19 being omitted from the inside of the flange 17.</p> |
