The invention relates to an antimicrobial foil/film composition for food products and to a process for preparing the same. According to the invention, the composition comprises an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution in a concentration of 3...15%, a solution of antimicrobial agent in ethanol in a concentration of 1...7%, at a mixing ratio of 75:25...95:5, and 0.05...2% polyethylene glycol, as the case may be. The claimed process for preparing the composition consists in preparing the solution of polyvinyl alcohol in water, after which the antimicrobial agent solution is prepared, under selected conditions, and then the previously prepared solutions are mixed in preset ratios and under selected conditions to finally result in the antimicrobial film which is used for manufacturing antimicrobial packages.
