[Classes 20 (iii) and 137] Ventilating means is arranged within the normal window space in the side of a vehicle and provides an air passage even when no part of the glass panel is in an opened position, baffles being provided to ensure air extraction due to the passage of air past the window when the vehicle is in motion. A ventilation gap is formed in a centre panel 2 between two side panels 3 mounted above a glass pane, and arranged in the window space. A hood or cover-plate 4 is spaced from the gap to form an air tunnel 5 at the ends of which are pivoted flaps 6 which direct the air current over the hood 4, and cause an extraction of the vitiated air. Two of such flaps 6, which may be made of rubber, may be fitted when the vehicle such as a tram car is adapted to move in either direction. In Figs. 8 and 9, the ends of the chamber 5 are closed by vertical box-like members 8 which are open at the side to the chamber 5, and laterally at the ends 8<1> for extraction of the vitiated air. The members 8 may be extended horizontally at 8<1>, as in Fig. 12, and terminate in louvres 8x. The box-like members may be open, and louvred along their external face as at 10, Fig. 17, and provided with a hollow cylindrical shutter 11 having a cut-away portion 11x, so that, by rotation of the shutter, by a handle 12, the air passage may be opened or closed. The cover plate may be formed of two relatively slidable portions 4a, 4b to allow of access to the interior through the window. The cover-plate 4c may be hinged about its upper horizontal edge and opened and closed by a rack and pinion device operated by a handle 14. In modifications, fixed glass panels 15 are separated by gaps having louvred chambers 16, the centre panel being either flush with the side panels or in a different plane, and certain of the panels may be slidable as 15c, 15d.
