The invention relates to a method for monitoring the status of collectors in radial collector wells by measuring collector wall thickness and determining the aging condition of the collector. The essential feature of the invention is that a measurement unit is lowered in the well shaft of the radial collector well to the level of the collector, the measurement unit is introduced into the collector by remote control to perform optical data acquisition, the measurement unit is brought to a halt at least one point of the collector where the wall thickness of the collector is measured, and the measured data are stored in the measurement unit and/or sent to the surface. The invention further relates to a measurement unit capable of carrying out the method. The measurement unit (1) has an outer shell shaped as a body of revolution, with a propeller (2), driven by electric motor (3) and adapted to drive the measurement unit forward and backward, being connected to the rear end thereof. Reversible-direction propellers, driven by electric motor (3), are disposed in respective steering ducts (6, 7) located in the front portion of the measurement unit (1), with a front camera (18) and a periscope camera (17) being arranged to be connected through a data acquisition unit (16), where the periscope camera (18) is arranged perpendicular to the axis (24) of the measurement unit (1). A wall thickness measurement head (20), connected to a control/data storage unit (13), is built in the measurement unit (1) perpendicular to the axis (24) thereof, with a radio frequency (RC) control unit (10) adapted to perform control of the measurement unit (1 ) being also built therein. An RC antenna (11) is mounted on the outer shell, and energy is supplied to the measurement unit (1) from a built-in battery, with ballast tanks (4, 5) and compressed air tanks (15) being disposed inside the shell of the measurement unit (1), where the compressed air tanks are connected to the ballast tanks (4, 5) and the ballast tanks and compressed air tanks are adapted for floating and/or adjusting the submersion depth of the measurement unit (1). |
