A light illumination device, the purpose of which is to sufficiently cool a light source unit (20), the light illumination device being provided with: a long light source unit (20) in which a plurality of light-emitting elements (22) are arranged on the surface of a substrate (21), the light source unit (20) being provided, along a light transmission window member (15), within a flat casing body (12) having the light transmission window member (15) formed on a lower end surface part (13A); and a heat sink (31) provided on the reverse -surface side of the substrate (21) of the light source unit (20) so as to be in contact with the reverse surface. An air intake channel, in which a cooling airflow introduced from the exterior through air intake ports formed in the casing body (12) flows towards the heat sink (31), is formed in the casing body (12). Air intake cooling fans (45) are provided at positions in the air intake channel near the heat sink (31). The air intake ports are formed on the peripheral surfaces of the casing body (12) other than the lower end surface part (13A) and an upper end surface part (13B), which face each other. |
