A compressible liner (1110) for a helmet or other apparatus subject to shock loading comprises three substantially co-extensive layers (1124, 1128, 1160) mutually engaged by respective cone-like protuberances (1130, 1162) and cone-like recesses (1132, 1161). The intermediate layer (1160) is of a different compressibility and provides for de-coupling of the layers in an oblique impact. |
