With a precondition that intake temperature on an entry side of an intercooler 6, ambient temperature, EGR gas temperature on an entry side of an EGR cooler 14 and cooling water temperature into the EGR cooler 14 are determined to be normally detected, fault in an intake system is identified by comparing three elements, i.e., intercooler efficiency calculated on the basis of the intake temperature on entry and exit sides of the intercooler 6 and an ambient temperature, EGR cooler efficiency calculated on the basis of EGR gas temperature on entry and exit sides of the EGR cooler 14 and cooling water temperature, and any deviation of a calculated value of the intake temperature at an intake manifold 7 on the basis of a current EGR ratio, EGR gas temperature on the exit side of the EGR cooler 14 and intake temperature on the exit side of the intercooler 6. |
