The invention provides a relay server and a connection method thereof. To conduct communication based on a VPN, in relay server which can be connected to both a wired WAN and a wireless WAN, which WAN to use is decided. The relay server, has a connection information storage unit, a first connection control unit, a second connection control unit, a VPN control unit and an exclusive control unit. The connection information storage unit stores connection information. The first connection control unit performs control used for being connected to a public wired communication network. The second connection control unit performs control used for being connected to a public wireless communication network. The VPN control unit uses the VPN as a relay server of a communication partner to communicate. Under a circumstance of being connected to a WAN through the second connection control unit, the exclusive control unit prohibits connection to the WAN performed by the first connection control unit, and under a circumstance of being connected to a WAN through the first connection control unit, the exclusive control unit prohibits connection to the WAN performed by the second connection control unit. |
