A surgical apparatus 1 comprising a combination of drill guide 2 and bone fixation device 3. The bone fixation device 3 comprising a plurality of screw receiving apertures 6 extending therethrough, and a drill guide 2 comprising a top face 4 and a plurality of drill apertures 5 extending from the top face 4 through the drill guide 2. The drill apertures 5 of the drill guide 2 being arranged such that they can be separated into two groups by a dividing line, and if one were to increase the separation between the two groups in a the plane of the top face 4 and normal to the dividing line by a distance d then the arrangement of the drill apertures would match that of the screw receiving apertures 6. The apparatus 1 may further comprise a separation plate or spacer which is of thickness d. The apparatus is especially of use in bone lengthening procedures. In use the drill guide is used to drill recesses in the bone, the bone is broken, the separation plate is placed between the broken ends of the bone and the bone fixation device is screwed into place. |
