PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device which wipes off an ink adhering to a recording head while inhibiting the ink from being deposited on an ink discharge surface with a simple structure.SOLUTION: The ink jet recording device includes: a recording head 10; a wiper 20; a moving mechanism; and a control part. The recording head 10 has an ink discharge surface 17. The ink discharge surface 17 includes a first area A1 and a second area A2. A nozzle 11 which discharges an ink Nf opens in the first area A1. The second area A2 is located adjacent to one end of the first area A1. The moving mechanism moves the wiper 20 in a state the wiper 20 is placed in contact with the ink discharge surface 17.
