The invention relates to an electronic device (80) including a RAM (23), a nonvolatile storage device (24) as a memory technology device, and firmware (24a) that is stored on the nonvolatile storage device (24). The firmware (24a) includes a kernel (24c) that is expanded onto the RAM (23) and a root disk image (24d) as a root file system. The kernel (24c) is configured to mount the root disk image (24d) on the nonvolatile storage device (24) as the root file system when a boot mode of the electronic device (80) is a normal boot mode. The kernel (24c), when the boot mode is an update mode for updating the firmware (24a) on the nonvolatile storage device (24), is configured i) to generate a RAM disk (23a) as an MTD in an area of the RAM (23) not under management of the kernel (24c), ii) to expand the root disk image (24d) on the nonvolatile storage device (24) into the RAM disk (23a), and iii) to mount the root disk image (24d) on the RAM disk (23a) as the root file system. The invention also realizes to a corresponding method for booting an electronic device (80). |
