Provided are a scribing apparatus which has extended lifespan and can form a scribe line with high degree of precision such as a scribe line based on a scribing point, a scribing method, and a holder unit. The scribing apparatus (1) comprises: a scribing wheel (31); a pin (32) which mounts and supports the scribing wheel so as to freely revolute; a holder unit (30) having a holder (40) which holds and secures the pin; a scribe head (20) having a holder joint (21) which attaches the holder unit; and a table (14) on which a brittle material substrate (15) is laid. Further, the scribing apparatus has a rotation control unit (60) which hinders rotation of the scribing wheel when weight is applied to the scribing wheel.
