Methods are provided for enhancing the resistance of plants to bacterial pathogens. The methods involve transforming a plant with a polynucleotide molecule comprising a plant promoter operably linked to a nucleotide sequence that encodes a plant receptor that binds specifically with bacterial elongation factor-Tu. Further provided are expression cassettes, transformed plants, seeds, and plant cells that are produced by such methods. |

1. A method for enhancing the resistance of a plant to at least one bacterial pathogen, said method comprising the steps of:
(a) transforming a plant cell with a polynucleotide construct comprising a promoter and a nucleotide sequence that encodes an EF-Tu receptor (EFR), wherein said promoter is operably linked to said nucleotide sequence and said promoter is capable of driving expression of said nucleotide sequence in a plant cell; and (b) regenerating a transformed plant from said transformed plant cell;wherein said transformed plant has enhanced resistance to at least one bacterial pathogen. |
