In this application, a mold having an upper mold, a lower mold, and a side mold forms a cavity made into the shape of a light alloy wheel. After a light alloy melt is poured in from a sprue opened into the cavity made into the shape of a rim part formed by the upper mold and the side mold, one set cooling means out of a plurality of cooling means provided along the circumferential direction in the inside space of the upper mold is operated first, and thereafter, another cooling means is operated so as to carry out forced cooling of the light alloy melt poured into the cavity forming the rim part. Thereby, a light alloy wheel wherein casting defects such as shrinkage cavities arising in the rim part are reduced and thus air leakage is suppressed is manufactured.
