The invention relates to the field associated with the detection of the infiltration of oxygen into confined spaces containing substances that can be altered by the presence of oxygen. The invention relates to a colorimetric oxygen sensor with an operating principle based on a solid-phase enzymatic oxidation reaction. The invention comprises a solid hydrogel on which polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and its substrate have been immobilised without oxygen. Contact between the sensor and oxygen initiates the oxidation of the substrate in the form of an irreversible reaction, producing coloured substances, as illustrated in figure 2.
