The invention relates to a modular computer system (1), comprising a chassis (2) with a plurality of receiving bays (7) for receiving corresponding functional modules (13), in particular server modules (22). The modular computer system (1) comprises a non-volatile storage device which is arranged in the chassis (2) and at least one controller which is arranged in the chassis (2) and is connected to the storage device. The storage device is designed to store configuration data of a plurality of functional modules (13). The controller is designed to receive requests to write, read, and/or delete configuration data, said requests being transmitted by a functional module (13) received in a receiving bay (7), to map the requests onto an address space of the storage device, and to transmit corresponding control commands to the storage device.
