The present invention relates to a frost detection device and a method, which can detect frost generated in an evaporator coil when operating a refrigeration system in a high humidity and low temperature environment condition. As a tilt of an output signal of a detection sensor of a frost detection device determines whether a defrosting circuit is operated, a sensor surface of the frost detection device is contaminated with an external contaminant to surely driving the defrosting circuit even if a sensor output is decreased. A sensor irrelevant to contamination is added to detect a decline in the sensor output generated by an aging phenomenon in accordance with using the sensor, thereby easily judging a replacement cycle of the sensor to enable maintenance of the frost detection device to be easy. |
