In a part or component for machines, in particular large-scale machines, which consists of grey cast iron with graphite embedded in a basic microstructure, it is possible to achieve a high load-bearing capacity and also good machining properties and good tribological properties by virtue of the fact that finely lamellar troostite is formed as the matrix material, in which the graphite is incorporated in lamellar form, by controlled cooling according to a predefined temperature-time correlation with a normalizing process at 850-900°C, subsequent rapid cooling down to about 400°C and subsequent, relatively slow residual cooling. |
