The present invention relates to a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device using the same. The backlight unit includes: a lead frame prepared on a printed circuit board and having a receiving groove therein; a plurality of light emitting diode chips received inside the receiving groove of the lead frame; and a cover structure which has a first diffusion unit diffusing light emitted from the light emitting diode chip, and is prepared on the lead frame. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the backlight unit can reduce an increase in thickness and the number of light emitting units and prevent a hot spot phenomenon. |
