847,001. Locking rotary elements. SOC. TECHNIQUE POUR L'INDUSTRIE MINIERE. March 11, 1958 [May 21, 1957], No. 7808/58. Class 80 (4). A rotatable member or shaft 1 is adapted to be locked in any desired angular position by means of a toothed locking-element 8 engaging peripheral teeth 2 on the member 1. The element 8 is guided to move in a plane normal to the axis of member 1 and has an inclined cam surface 10 adapted to be engaged. by a mating surface 12 on a sliding cam-member 11 to move the teeth 9 of element 8 into engagement with the teeth 2 to lock member 1. A spring 16 urges cam member 11 into locking position and release is effected by acting on the shank of member 11, e.g. by a fluid-pressure actuator, against the spring 16. Springs 13 assist the retraction of the toothed element 8. The element 8 is allowed a small amount of lateral play in casing 3 and the cam element 11 can rotate slightly in a cylindrical surface 6 so that those elements can move to align the teeth 9 with the teeth 2 under control of a feeler 17 carried by the element 8. On a releasing action the cam element 11 is centred by a fixed finger 20 engaging a recess 19 therein and the element 8 is centred relative to the element 11 by means of a projection 21 engaging a recess 22. |
