In a process of producing a sugar liquid from a woody biomass, the conventional techniques have such a problem that a specific component contained in the sugar liquid from the woody biomass remarkably deteriorates the filtration performance when the sugar liquid is filtrated through a microfiltration membrane and/or an ultrafiltration membrane. In the present invention, it becomes possible to improve the filtration performance of the sugar liquid through the microfiltration membrane and/or the ultrafiltration membrane, and it also becomes possible to produce the sugar liquid with high efficiency by hydrolyzing the woody biomass to produce a liquid component and then reacting the liquid component with a mannanase.
