<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discrimination method capable of discriminating sleet from snow and rain. <P>SOLUTION: Near infrared light in a wavelength range that is highly absorbed by water and near infrared light in a wavelength range that is poorly absorbed by water are projected toward falling objects in the atmosphere to receive the near infrared light in each wavelength range reflected by the falling objects. Difference in intensity between the projected near infrared light and the received near infrared light in each wavelength is measured in order to discriminate among snow, sleet, and rain by comparing values obtained from the measured differences with prescribed reference values. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
