[Also in Group XXV] A container such as a bag, purse or powder box having a body portion a and a cover b hingeably connected to the body portion, includes a device for opening and closing the container comprising two resilient frames 1, 5 having substantially the same profile as the container and attached respectively one to the cover and the other to the body portion, the two frames being pivotally linked together adjacent a common substantially rectilinear side, the frame attached to the cover being formed with opposed helical elements 6 which are engaged in non-circular passages 4 provided in the frame attached to the body portion, whereby on compressing the device inwardly adjacent the linking axis, relative slipping takes place between the walls of the passages, and the helical elements thereby producing an angular opening movement of the cover. The common side consists of two aligned extensions 1c of the frame 1 each of which ends in a projection 1d in which is formed the passages 4. The helical elements 6 are formed by twisting parts 5c of the frame 5. The frame 5 is provided with a tongue 5a which engages an aperture 1b in the frame 1 to secure the two elements together in the closed position. When the frames are squeezed the distortion of the frame 1 is sufficient to disengage the tongue 4a from the aperture 1b to enable the frames to relatively pivot. To enable the tongue to automatically engage, a lead-in 1a is provided on the frame 1 adjacent the aperture 1b. In a modification a spring tongue is provided on the frame 1 and an abutment on the frame 5, which engages under the end of the spring tongue.</p> |
