Disclosed are a display device having a voice recognition function, and a method for operating the same. The method for the recognition of the voice of a user in the display device according to the present invention includes: a step for inputting the user voice; a step for extracting voice information from the user voice, measuring the reliability of multiple words based on the extracted voice information, and extracting multiple words similar to the user voice; a step for determining one word among multiple extracted similar words which satisfy predetermined conditions the most as a target word for the user voice; and a step for displaying at least one among the target words and a similar word list which includes the similar words except the target words. According to the same, the display device is capable of enhancing the voice recognition accuracy without changing the internal components regarding the voice recognition function including an acoustic model or a pronunciation dictionary.
