PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow rack bar manufacturing method capable of easily and precisely manufacturing a hollow rack bar including a rack part meshed with a pinion gear and a borne face borne by a yoke, and to provide a hollow rack bar having a rack part and a born face.SOLUTION: When there is manufactured a hollow rack bar 10 including a rack part 21 for meshing with a pinion gear 29, and a supported face 23 formed on the tooth back side of the rack part 21 and supported by a yoke 31, the shape of a tooth mold 39 arranged on the outer face is transferred to form the rack part 21, a core grid 41 is press-fit in a circular pipe material thereby to compress the inner faces so that the shape of a tooth mold 39 arranged on the outer face is transferred to form the rack part 21, and the supported face 23 is then formed by a removal processing or a deformation processing.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
