The invention relates to a method for enriching new strains of microalgae belonging to the Botryococcus genus with capric acid, under mixotrophic culture conditions and in the presence of an organic carbonaceous substrate. The biomass and the capric acid yield obtained from said strains is even greater when the light source is variable or discontinuous in the form of a flashing light.
