The invention relates to a device for checking and/or adapting a hearing aid, comprising a special mobile computer which is permanently dedicated to the hearing aid and which has a proximity interface to the hearing aid, a remote data transmission interface to a remote computing device, and a user interface for outputting audio and video signals to a user. The special computer further comprises a computer program for controlling the communication between the special computer and the hearing aid and between the special computer and the remote computing device and for carrying out a checking and/or adjusting process. The user interface is designed such that the user can start the checking and/or adjusting process. Furthermore, the user should not be able to carry out any adjustments or changes on the special computer as long as said adjustments or changes have not been prompted by the remote computing device.
