An aircraft instrument system comprises aneroid capsules 20, 21 and an electric motor 74 for positioning a pointer 39 relative to a dial plate 44, the capsules being arranged to position the pointer 39 independently of the motor 74 and the motor 74 positioning the pointer 39 in accordance with an accurate electrical computation of altitude. As shown, Fig. 1, the capsules 20, 21, through bimetal compensators 24, 25, sectors 32, 33 and shaft 34, position the pointer 39 relative to a frame 47 and an electrical correction factor is applied to the frame 47 by the motor 74 through a differential gear 67 and gears 62, 46. A pressure correction may be made through a knob 50 and gear 76 acting independently through the differential gear 67 on gears 62, 46. The electrical correction factor is obtained from a master air data computer fed by a syncrogenerator 61 geared to the shaft 34. Should the electric power fail automatic return mechanism, Fig. 3, returns the frame 47 to neutral position and the mechanical system operates without electrical compensation. Drums 48, 49 driven from spiral gear 52 indicate the extent of the correction entered at knob 50 in inches of mercury and millibars respectively. When the system is applied as an altimeter drum 41 indicates thousands of feet and pointer 39 a thousand foot change in each revolution.</p>
