The present invention improves throughput and communication quality in wireless communication by flexibly controlling UL transmission and DL transmission. A user terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention communicates with a wireless bases station using a downlink subframe that is capable of receiving a first downlink signal and an uplink subframe that is capable of transmitting an uplink signal. The user terminal is characterized by comprising: a transmission unit that uses the uplink subframe to transmit the uplink signal using a predetermined wireless access method; a reception unit that receives a second downlink signal which is transmitted by the uplink subframe using the predetermined wireless access method; and a control unit that selects a transmission mode to be applied to the second downlink signal from among a transmission mode that can be applied to the first downlink signal and a transmission mode that can be applied to the uplink signal and controls reception processing.
