A ply making apparatus (100) is disclosed comprising: a support frame (110); a rotatable member (200) mounted to the support frame, wherein the rotatable member further includes a spool mechanism (300) for winding a strip of ply (20); and a first (440A) and second (400B) bead support holder located adjacent each other, wherein the second bead holder is configured to hold a second bead (B) and the first bead support holder is configured to support a first bead (A) in parallel relationship and axial alignment with respect to the second bead held by the second bead holder. The rotatable member (200) is positionable inside each bead (A), (B). Also, methods of making a tire carcass and a tire are disclosed.
