Smoke detector of the open type that comprises at least one pulse-operated light-emitting element and at least one light detection element in an open housing and a power supply unit connected to the light-emitting element or elements, wherein the power supply unit comprises voltage stabilization means and an energy collection device and a digital power supply monitoring/control unit for monitoring and controlling the operation of the power supply unit and thus the light-emitting element or elements, wherein the digital operation monitoring and control unit is designed for real-time control of an on-time and of a pulse duration of the light-emitting element or elements in response to a temperature signal.
