Provided is an energy-saving electric pencil sharpener capable of sharpening the lead tip to a predetermined diameter. An electric pencil sharpener (1) for sharpening a pencil inserted into a cylindrical member (20) with a cutting blade (30), comprises a detection unit to detect the accession of the lead tip of the pencil inserted into the cylindrical member, to a predetermined position, wherein the detection unit is constituted by comprising a lead tip adjusting mechanism which comprises: a contact member (40) to be in contact with the lead tip of the pencil; a moving member (50) which is provided with an inclined surface (52) and which moves in the direction perpendicular to the pencil insertion direction; and a switching member (60) connected to a drive unit for driving the cutting blade, while the switch member is in contact with the inclined surface (52) and biased toward the moving member (50), so that the cutting blade is deactivated when the contact member is pressed. |
