SWITCHABLE BARRIER AND 3D DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THEREOF

The present invention relates to a variable barrier and a stereoscopic image display device having the same. An electrode for transmission and an electrode for prevention are formed on an identical layer, and voltage is selectively applied to the electrode for transmission and the electrode for prevention to allow an image for a left eye and an image for a right eye to be selectively transmitted. Therefore, a stereoscopic image can be realized. The variable barrier includes: a first substrate and a second substrate; a common electrode formed on the second substrate; a liquid crystal layer formed between the first substrate and the second substrate; at least one insulation layer formed on the first substrate; a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the insulation layer and forming an electric field with the common electrode to selectively transmit and prevent the images; and a black matrix formed on the second substrate to correspond to a region between the first electrode and the second electrode and preventing the images from being transmitted to the corresponding region. The purpose of the present invention is to provide to a variable barrier and a stereoscopic image display device having the same capable of switching 2D to 3D.
