The invention relates to an ester-based composition to be used as a plasticizer and lubricant in polymer processing and to a process for preparing the composition. According to the invention, the composition comprises 1 mole of benzoic acid or phthalic anhydride, 1...2 mole of ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, 1 mole of C3-C5 aliphatic alcohols and an acid catalyst, such as p-toluene sulphonic acid. The process, as claimed by the invention, comprises the one-stage esterification of benzoic acid or phthalic anhydride, respectively, with ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and C3-C5 aliphatic alcohols, respectively, in the presence of the acid catalyst, at a temperature of 108...128°C, in a reactor of the bubble column type, to result in highly pure esters. |
