PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion exchange membrane having excellent electric characteristics and membrane strength and fewer bubble defects in the membrane and on a surface thereof.SOLUTION: An ion exchange membrane K comprises: a support body composed of ethylene-vinyl alcohol polymer fibers; and an anionic vinyl alcohol block copolymer produced by polymerizing a terminal mercapto group-containing polyvinyl alcohol with sodium p-styrene sulfonate, or a cationic vinyl alcohol block copolymer produced by polymerizing a terminal mercapto group-containing polyvinyl alcohol with vinylbenzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. The support body includes an impregnation layer in at least a part thereof, which is impregnated with the above ionic vinyl alcohol block copolymer from one surface toward a thickness direction. The above fibers have an average fiber diameter of 8 to 30 μm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
