Provided is an electric vacuum cleaner capable of securing communication between an intake port (52) and a dust collection unit (14) even in a state where a body portion (35) of a vacuum unit (28) is pivoted in an up/down direction with respect to a body case (12). The body portion (35) is disposed at a lower portion of the body case (12) and is provided on the body case (12) so as to be capable of pivoting in an up/down direction. The intake port (52) opens in the body portion (35) and faces a surface being vacuumed (F). A sliding contact surface portion (54) is provided on the body portion (35) and faces the dust collection unit (14), the sliding contact surface portion (54) curving along the pivoting direction of the body portion (35). A communication port (55) is in communication with the intake port (52), opens in the body portion (35) and faces the dust collection unit (14). A communication portion (29) comprises a curved surface portion (62) and a communication opening portion (63), and is secured to the body case (12) between the vacuum unit (28) and the dust collection unit (14). The curved surface portion (62) is provided on a communication body (61), bends in the pivoting direction of the body portion (35), and is in sliding contact with the sliding contact surface portion (54) through the pivoting of the body portion (35).
