A dyeable polymeric composition comprises a crystalline polyolefin in admixture with a substituted or unsubstituted polyalkylenimine which is soluble in or emulsified with the molten polyolefin, has a molecular weight not less than 1,000, a second order transition temperature lower than that of the polyolefin and an affinity for dyes, and a dispersing agent. The dispersing agent may be cetyl or stearyl alcohol, stearic or terephthalic acid, bezoin, furoin, vinyl stearate, mono, di-, or tri-stearic esters of glycerol, monoethanolamine stearate, stearamide, N-diethanol-lauramide, C6 to C30 aliphatic amines, condensation products of ethylene oxide with alcohol, amines, or phenols, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylic acid, polyamides, polyacrylic acid, polystyrene, styrene copolymers, or terpene resins. The compositions may include fillers and pigments such as titanium oxide, and stabilizers such as trisphenylnonylphosphite. The polyolefin may be polyethylene or polypropylene. The composition may be melt spun into fibres and filaments which may be acid dyed. Specification 873,830 is referred to. |
