The invention provides a polarization device which can generate polarized light in a wide range to some extent, wherein the wavelength of the polarized light is within the range from the short wavelength of visible light to the ultraviolet wavelength. The polarization is excellent in performances of extinction ratio and transmittance. Stripy grids (2) disposed on a transparent substrate (1) is made of amorphous titanium oxide. The mean value of widths of all linear parts (21) forming the stripy grids (2) is set as w, the distance from each linear part (21) to an adjacent linear part (21) at one side is set as t, and the distance from each linear part (21) to an adjacent linear part (21) at the other side is set as T, thereby forming a relation: t/T is greater than (0.0149w+0.0644). |
