In an automatic gramophone of the kind in which records are stacked on a stationary centre post such centre post is made releasably detachable, from a remote control point, in order that single records may be played without having to thread them down over a long centre post, a short replacement post being inserted in its place. The said centre post 3, Fig. 4, is inserted into the stationary bearing tube 14 and located in its correct rotary position by a radial pin 19 in the post which locates itself in a recess 20 in the bearing tube 14. The post 3 is retained by a wire clip 27 which engages a groove 22 in the said post, and may be released by a slide bar 30, Fig. 3, operated remotely by a lug 33 protruding above the turn-table.
