This medical device is provided with a base material, and is such that cells are caused to be in contact with, or supported on, one surface of the base material, wherein the one surface of the base material on which at least cells are supported is constituted from a fluorine-containing cyclic olefin polymer containing repeating units represented by general formula (1). (In formula (1), at least one of R1 to R4 is a fluorine atom, a fluorine-containing alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms, a fluorine-containing alkoxy group having 1-10 carbon atoms or a fluorine-containing alkoxyalkyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms. In cases where R1 to R4 are groups not containing fluorine atoms, R1 to R4 are selected from among hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1-10 carbon atoms, alkoxy groups having 1-10 carbon atoms and alkoxyalkyl groups having 2-10 carbon atoms.
