Disclosed is a method for producing ultrafine powder of titanium carbonitride without the need to have a grinding process in a relatively low temperature condition. The production method of the present invention comprises: a mixing step of contacting titanium dioxide (TiO2) and calcium (Ca) with carbon(C) under an inert atmosphere; a synthesis step of heating the resultant mixture to a temperature of 600 to 1500℃ and reacting the mixture under a nitrogen atmosphere; and a washing step of washing the reaction mixture to remove calcium oxide
