A substantially safer chainsaw is provided in which the side cover cannot be removed or mounted unless a brake lever has been moved to the brake position. This chainsaw has a side cover provided which covers a sprocket, and only when the brake lever (20) is in the brake position can the side cover be attached to or removed from the housing. An engagement portion (51a) is provided in the side cover, an engaging piece (20a) is provided in the brake lever, and movement of the engaging piece accompanying movement of the brake lever brings the engagement portion and the engaging piece into an engaged or disengaged state. Furthermore, a locking means (34) is provided which, in a state in which the side cover has been removed, prevents the brake lever from moving from the brake position (20') to the release position (20). |
