The present invention relates to a mobile terminal which can sense a touch input of tapping a touch screen while the touch screen is deactivated, and to a communications system thereof. The mobile terminal of the present invention comprises: a wireless communications unit which transmits and receives data with an external terminal located within a predetermined distance; a touch screen configured to be converted from one among an activation state in which a lighting is turned on and a deactivation state in which the lighting is turned off into the other, and to sense a touch input; and a control unit which senses a plurality of touch inputs applied to the touch screen in the deactivation state by using the touch screen, releases a lock state when the sensed touch inputs are matched with a predetermined pattern, converts the touch screen in the deactivation state into an activation state, and transmits a lock release command formed to release the lock state of the external terminal to the external terminal. The external terminal releases the lock state in response to the lock release command, and displays predetermined screen information on a display unit equipped in the external terminal.
