A control unit for a load bearing vehicle operating a load lifting mechanism, such as a fork-lift truck or a cherry-picker, controls 18, 20, 22 the vehicle or controls a motor on the vehicle. Control is dependent on a turning parameter 16 or driver input of the vehicle indicating a change in direction. Control is also dependent on the linear speed or velocity of the vehicle in the direction of travel. Control is further dependent on an accelerometer 10 signal or measurement. The unit then determines or calculates the tilt of the vehicle 12, based on the turning parameter 16, the speed and the accelerometer 10 reading. Control of the motor or the vehicle is dependent on the determined tilt 12. |
